Get Well Soon
To put peoples minds at rest Ray Turley coach of the U13 Dragons and U11 Jets is recovering quickly from his recent stroke. Apart from a little weakness on one side, which he is addressing with gardening and walking, he hopes to return to work as early as this coming Tuesday. On behalf of the club we wish him a speedy recovery and can probably be sure he will be at the soccer in the not to distant future.

The final weekend of the season for the junior teams ended with some fine performances. The U16 Pythons absolutely smashed Doncaster 10-1 scoring 5 goals in the first half against gale force winds and rain. The boys were awesome in their team play and finishing and probably finished 4th a bare 2 places short of a Super League spot. A bit more luck in a few games and they may have been our first Super League team. The U11 Juggernauts battled against a very strong Ringwood team in a match to decide premiers coming out on top 1-0 whilst the U12 Bears fell a spot or two short of silverware for the first time in 3 years but convincingly beat Glen Eira 4-1. On Saturday the U10 Raiders defeated Nth Blackburn 6-1 to take out the the championship.

The Hoods
An amazing fight back by the our 5th Division Hoods team has kept them on track for promotion. They seemed somewhat shell shocked having a reserve and started the game trying to play everything up the centre against a very tall Berwick team that are very strong in the air. Their natural talent created a few half chances that went either wide or over the bar. Their defence seemed at six and sevens early when a free kick was volleyed in giving the visitors an early lead. This was followed by a rebound goal when two Hoods defenders crashed into each other leaving them two down very early. Despite their speed at the back the Hoods were getting caught on the break and when a lob sailed in putting them 0-3 down after only 20 minutes one thought it might not be their day. However the team not only boasts outstanding talents but also tireless workers in the middle that never give up. Christian, Joe, Patrick Baker and Mark Tory all continued their excellent work rate that persisted all match and when Patrick Terry pulled himself wide up front a few holes started to appear in the Berwick defense. Pat had a few opportunities on his left that he didn't take but eventually set up a goal boosting their confidence immensely. When a corner was pushed out of the danger zone and Mick Terry hooked it back in over his head I am sure he was surprised to turn and see it sail over the keeper to bring the score back to 2-3 at half time. The second half was all Hoods but they were constantly being frustrated. Leighton's shot was deflected wide, one powered into the cross beam and several went over or wide before the amazing talent of Pat Terry won a penalty when his trickery had the defender take his legs from under him. A good save by the keeper though frustrated the team further until the speed of Matt on the left allowed him to get a toe between keeper and defender and finally equalize. Finally on level terms the childish behaviour of Leighton then let his team mates down when he was sent off for swearing. This is a position however the Hoods have got used to this season being a player or more short on many occasions and when Alex Hundle fired in a cannon from only a few metres off the goal line but near the edge of the box leaving the keeper no chance the game was all but over. Brian had dropped back to shore up the defense with Steve Robinson and virtually made the defence impenetrable but still ventured forward on occasion to create some excellent synergies with Pat, Matt and Alex. Though only one more goal was forthcoming several may have easily happened. Though the brilliance of the youngsters won the game it was the toughing it out early by Christian, Patrick Baker, Mark and Joe that kept the game alive when it could have been easier to throw in the towel. In all an excellent hard fought victory.

FOREST (DIV 1) VS Dandy Casuals

3-2 – R. Cassidy, F. Disario, S. Grant
In the latest round of the division 1 the Forest came up against Dandy Casuals. Some strong recent results showed that they weren’t to be taken lightly as they had beaten Casey and drawn with Knox. The boys started well had on what was easily the best pitch they’ve played on all season knocked the ball around well. A tactical change by coach, Eddie Woischuk saw Frank Disario start the game up front and this paid dividends when after some neat passing Disario crossed for Ryan Cassidy to open the scoring with a nice volley. Their lead was short lived though as a free kick from the right was whipped in and the Dandy player was allowed to jump unmarked to head home. Pete Strajner nearly put the Forest back in front shortly after when he had a shot well saved by the goalkeeper and Disario came close again after an excellent long ball from Bernie Herrok. Despite their best efforts and a couple of important saves from keeper Mario Korporaal the score remained 1-1 at half time. The boys started the second half positively and went ahead soon after. A corner from Terry Wynne was headed towards goal by Shaun Grant and as Strajner hooked the ball into the net it struck the outstretched hand of the Dandy defender. From the resulting penalty Disario stepped up and squeezed the ball under the keepers body to make the score 2-1. The Forest continued to knock the ball around well in patches and a pass from Gary Lewis found its way to Grant who hit a shot from distance which had too much on it for the Dandy keeper. This seemed to spark Dandy into life though and they pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go after their forward capitalized on a loose ball in the box. Some dogged defending by Ned Culibrk and Darryl Scott shut the door on any last gasp chances that Dandy conjured up and the boys ran out winners 3-2.
A very good all round team performance and the boys will look forward to a weeks rest now as they have the bye to rest up any niggling injuries.
U12 Bears
Last away match of the season for the Bears was against bottom of the table Mooroolbark. With the opening goal to the Bears coming after only 2 minutes, and Liam Stauber having notched three of his own by midway through the first half, the Bears were able to play an open and relaxed game and enjoy themselves after a number of tense battles in recent weeks. Max Rechner constantly made ground with the ball down the right wing and finished off a good cross from Nic Broomhead to score just before half time, whilst Michael Park was very cool and calculated in taking the chances on offer to finish with two goals. Thyler Argoon was given the chance to roam free from goal, proving industrious in midfield together with Jonathan Marshall, and Lachlan Maclean had an outstanding match feeding the ball to the forward line with precision, ably assisted by Adam Doolan. After spending the opening part of the match on the bench, in the second half Zach Luecke was too quick for the Mooroolbark defence and scored two goals. Mooroolbark became frustrated as the match progressed, resulting in some heavy challenges and three yellow cards followed by one red. One challenge on Nic in the goal square also resulted in a penalty being awarded that was duly converted by Kane Angulo. The final score was 11-0, Liam finishing with four goals, and the Bears are assured of a top 4 finish, with second still a possibility if results go their way. A deserving player of the match for a typically tireless and unselfish display was Lachlan Maclean.

U16 Pythons
The Sherbrooke U16A grade Pythons continued there exciting brand of soccer that either results in what seems an unfair defeat or was on this occasion a demolition job of class opposition. In this case league leaders Whitehorse were on the receiving end of a 5-1 thumping that could have easily been more. Jacco Kersten despite having one of his poorest matches for the year still picked up a hat trick which leaves you to wonder just how good this boy may become in the future. The other star forward Josh Woischuk also had a quieter game and still scored two goals. The stars of the game came from the drive from the defense and midfield. Due to injuries U15 fill ins Joris Kerstens and Leon Wardrope were asked to step up and step up they did giving exceptional drive down the left wing and winning most balls that came their way. At half time it was 1-1 despite Sherbrooke having most of the game. In the past the second half has seen the same pressure taken into the second half resulting in either frustrating losses or demolition of the opposition. This week James Lodder was outstanding in the central defence giving exceptional drive forward and coupled with an outstanding man of the match performance from Tom Baldock demolition was the order of the day. Tom had a hand in at least 3 goals and set plenty up that should of been goals. His desire to win the ball and then distribute superbly was a joy to watch. One can only wonder what might have been if things had gone the boys way early in the season.
U16 Sparx
The U16 Sparx continued to push for a top two finish with a 7-1 win over Mooroolbark this weekend. The girls started very hesitantly and suddenly found themselves 1-0 down. This seemed to "spark" the girls into action and some good build up play from Rheanan and Nicole found Alex in space who crossed for Jordy to score. Jordy then added a 2nd through sheer persistence and then Jess converted to give the girls a 3-1 half time lead. The girls were told to lift their attack on the ball and talk more in the 2nd half and responded brilliantly. Emily was sweeping with confidence and strength and Olivia and Tara were superb fullbacks pushing the ball forward and tackling hard. Adriana was fantastic in her attack on the ball covering the middle and on the 2 occasions that the defence was pierced Georgia came to the fore diving in bravely at the attackers feet. It wasn't long before Jess added a fourth and when Erica slotted in from 6 yards the girls knew they had the game won. They were first to the ball all the time and Kara, Nicole, Rheanan and Alex were creating numerous chances. Nicole got on the score sheet when she slammed one home from the edge of the box and then Jordy completed her hat-trick with a thunderbolt from outside the area. Best on ground was Rheanan for her relentless attack on the ball and ferocious tackling. Well done Sparx.
FOREST (DIV 1) VS Knox Churches Force
1-3 – S. Grant

In what was talked up as a prospective grand final the Forest came up against Knox for the third time this season. Both previous games had been very close encounters and this was no exception. The boys started brightly and controlled the game for the first half hour. Pete Strajner and Ryan Cassidy were causing the Knox defense all sorts of problems and Darryl Scott was winning everything in midfield. They went ahead on the 20 minute mark when a long throw from Cassidy was headed home by Shaun Grant. It was nearly 2 soon after when Strajner had a header well saved by the Knox keeper and Grant couldn’t capitalize on the follow up header from Frank Disario. Knox then began getting their passing together and equalized through a long range shot which snuck past Mario Korporaal at his near post. The Forest then unfortunately conceded again right on the stroke of half time when the Knox winger wasn’t closed down quickly enough allowing him to also hit a long range shot this time leaving Korporaal with no chance. Eddie reshuffled the troops at halftime looking for the desired affect. Bernie Herrok did a great job of shutting out the Knox captain who hardly got a touch after being influential early. The defense was working tirelessly with Ned Culibrk, Dave Milne and Jordan Scott all giving their all for the cause. The boys continued to try hard but Knox’s superior fitness proved to be the deciding factor. They went 3-1 up half way through the second half when the forward was sent through on goal to finish. Despite being behind the Forest continued to press hard and a flick on by Grant from another long throw came close to pulling a goal back. Dave Hill came close a few times also but it wasn’t to be for the boys. A very spirited performance by the entire team was to no avail but they could hold their heads up high. The boys will be looking to finish the season out strongly with their next match against Dandy Casuals.

Aug 9th/10th 2008
Reports Aug 9th/10th
The weather had an unbelievable turn for the Sunday matches at Menzies Creek snowing heavily for most of the second half of the U12 match. This coupled with rain and latter hail meant two matches were cancelled and that with the forecast for a week of rain it has been decided to close Menzies Creek from training for the rest of this coming week for ALL TEAMS. Both teams in the U12 match doned Beanies and goally gloves at half time and bravely completed their match in some of the coldest conditions they will probably ever have to play in.
U12 Bears
The Sherbrooke Under 12’s may be renamed the “Snow Bears” after a torrid encounter in remarkable conditions against Lalor. With the temperature hovering at zero, the Bears indeed seemed frozen at kick-off as Lalor scored an immediate goal, their winger breaking down the left side and beating a number of Sherbrooke players before giving Thyler Argoon in goal no chance. With the pitch muddy, the ball was heavy and passing difficult whilst a number of players were underdone after battling flu and colds to get on the pitch. After about ten minutes, the snow began to fall and became heavier as the half progressed. The Bears were well-served in attack by Zac h Luecke whilst Lachlan Maclean and Adam Doolan battled hard in defence, but a physical Lalor side seemed to be handling the conditions better. The half-time score was 0-1 and the Bears headed inside to warm up, emerging with gloves and beanies aplenty for the second half. Incredibly, the snow became heavier with big flakes drifting down. The Bears began to string together some attack, Nic Broomhead and Paul Torsello standing out whilst Max Rechner, in his first match back after a broken arm, caused havoc with his speed around the edges. Max Gates was standing up to much larger opposition with aplomb in midfield. In the mud there were some physical challenges from Lalor, resulting in a yellow card against a repeat offender before midway through the half Zac h Luecke weaved through some heavy Lalor defence to find the net with an excellent strike. Despite a number of opportunities, the Bears were unable to add a second goal and the match ended at 1-1 with both teams to be commended for persevering against the elements. With two matches left the Bears will need other results to go their way to hang onto a top two finish. Player of the Match – Zach Lucke
FOREST (DIV 1) VS Eastern United

0-2
In the latest round of matches the Forest came up against Eastern United. The boys had lost disappointingly to them earlier in the season so were looking to make a mends. This was not to be though as they squandered several early chances. Despite dominating possession for the first half hour of the game the Forest couldn’t take advantage and fell behind to a soft goal. 5 minutes later they were 2-0 down as a defensive mistake led to the Eastern United winger being through on goal and he took his chance well. Overall the Forest did dominate the majority of the first half yet found themselves 2-0 down at the break. A clearly disappointed coach Eddie Woischuk cried out for more from his players in the second half but it just wasn’t the Forest’s day. They looked totally out of sorts with their usual flowing moves being no existent. Stand out performances by a few individuals weren’t enough as many of the team was having an off day. They managed to create a few second half chances but failed to capitalize and ended up losing the game 2-0. Not only did they lose the game they also lost their place on top of the league as Casey drew with Dandy Casuals. A tough game next up against rivals Knox which could prove to be a decider comes seasons end. The boys will need to get back to winning ways should they wish to be a serious title contender.

The Ladies
The Ladies came up against undefeated leaders Mooroolbark after their poor performance the previous week. They eventually lost 1-3 but performed very well against a team boasting 8 State players. Defensively the team performed very strongly closing down the midfield and repelling most attacks. The Newman family had exceptional games with Carol closing down the winger that supplies most of their dangerous crosses and often turning defence into attack. Tanya swept superbly whilst Hayley cleaned up in goal. It was only a lack of concentration in the last minute of the first half where we didnt get off the posts quick enough to stop a through ball falling at a forwards feet a few metres out that allowed Mooroolbark the lead. A mix up in the second half allowed a simple tap in for Mooroolbark to give them a 2-0 lead. It wasnt all one side however as Stella Job continues to improve and trouble defences and after a few balls went wide a great long shot from Petra powered into the crossbar. With no interchange left Hayley had to swap with Perri in centre midfield which gave us a little more drive from Perris long kicks and Hayleys tenacity in the attacking half which eventually resulted in a deserved penalty that Hayley converted. The heading was a big improvement this week with young Lauren Millard continuing to lead the way in attacking the ball. Overall a vastly improved team performance that should hold the Ladies in good steed for the up coming Semi Final of the cup.
U10 Rockets

It may have stopped raining but Baynes Park still looked like a mudbath when the U10 Rockets showed up to play against the Eltham Eagles. As has been the case in the last couple of matches the game was played on the oppositions half, which meant that the rotation policy from back to middle to front lines was accepted gratefully again by all players. Josh Hogben had some dull moments in goal in the first half, but had a good run in the second half. It didn't take long for the pressure to pay off with Alan Damen scoring a couple of goals in quick succession, a shot from the edge of the penalty box for the first one, and a solo run, including passing the keeper, for the second goal. Cody Karsikas played well in midfield, spurred on by his dads visit from Queensland. Chris Heckenberg reckoned he scored a goal from a curving cornerkick, but sadly the referee saw things differently. 2-0 to the Rockets for the half time score.
In the second half more of the same pressure, Shaun Allen scored with a well timed volley from a ball that came back into the field. Some good passing between Chris and Will Farrow in the midfield started the build-up to another scoring chance, Isaac Van Rossen dribbled passed a couple of Elthamites and scored. An indirect freekick in the penalty area gave Chris his chance to show off his kicking skills and show off he did.  A beautifully executed hard shot that could only be touched, not stopped, by the keeper. 5-0. And this how it stayed. Well done Eagles, well done Rockets, "Go Rockets"!
U16 Sparx

A much anticipated return between Sherbrooke Rangers U'16 Girls "Sparx" resulted in a 2 - 0 loss to the home team against East Bentlleigh at Wandin East. The Sherbrooke girls were understandably anxious  for a quick result. Sparx hit the pitch running and commenced the game with determination that held the opposition down for the first half. Great defensive play by Nicole Perfect, Emily Scott and goalie Georgia Cramer proved too strong for East Bentleigh. Wingers Jordy Dunster and Alex Gardner outran their opponents. Jess Gilbert-Hunt played a magnificent game until an ankle injury stretchered her off in the last few moments. Interestingly Hampton Park United who had played The Comets earlier (and stayed on) gave Jess a rounding applause of support as she was carried off.  Second half showed a continued  effort by  "Sparx"  but despite  the united attack by Sherbrooke East Bentleigh managed to gain 2 goals. Sparx continued their strong attacking but were not able to score. The team should be congratulated for an an outstanding and sportsmanlike game.

FOREST (DIV 1) VS Mitcham Warriors
5-1 – P. Strajner 4, S. Grant

In the latest round of matches the Forest came up against last season’s premiers Mitcham Warriors. The boys had their best start to a game all season dominating early to be 4-0 up inside the first 20 minutes. Pete Strajner opened the scoring after he latched onto a long ball from Shaun Grant to hammer the ball past the despairing keeper. 5 minutes later it was 2-0 when Grant headed home after good work down the left by Ryan Cassidy. Strajner added 3rd when he again was end of a great long ball this time from Dave Hill. It was 4 soon after as Bernie Herrok whipped in a pin point corner for Strajner to complete his hat trick with a point blank range header. The forest continued to press their advantage and where awarded a penalty when Grant was pushed over in the box. He failed to capitalize though as the keeper save his weak shot comfortably. However it was 5-0 soon after that when Strajner constant persistence paid off again resulting in his 4th of the game. Mitcham managed to pull a goal back close to half time when a long range shot found its way passed keeper Mario Korporaal. An excellent first halves display by the boys, 5-1 the half time score. The second half was played at a much slower tempo as the Forest could there foot off the peddle somewhat. They did manage to create a number of good chances and could have easily won the game by a heavier margin. New boy Josh Woischuk showed great promise in his first game for the seniors and looks to be a find for the future. The defense stood up strong as always and skipper Darryl Scott had his usual solid game. An overall good performance by the boys who will be looking to take revenge on Eastern United next up after their defeat earlier in the season.

U10 Rockets
A sombre Sherbrooke Rangers week continued for the U10 Rockets with the sad news that Isaac Willcox's dad passed away. We hope that Isaac will soon return to play with us again, but understand his need for time.

The Rockets played an away game against the North Blackburn Monkeys, on their beautifully maintained ground.  This suited the Rockets passing game to a 'T', and it wasn't long before Alan Damen weaved his way through the Monkeys defence after an excellent throw in by Chris Heckenberg.  Alan ran down half the pitch, cut in and passed the keeper with a strong shot. One-nil Rockets! The new Rockets tactic of swapping whole lines from offence, to defence, to midfield worked well, and everybody got their chance to play in almost every position. The referee took a strong stance at a ball played back by Cody Karsikas to our goalkeeper Josh Hogben, and awarded the Monkeys an indirect free kick 2 meters from goal.  The first attempt was bravely fended off by Jake Breukel, risking life and limb, but sadly the rebound was touched over the goal line, and the scores were even again.  After keeping the pressure on the Monkeys for most of the first half it was towards the end that a cornerkick from Chris was smartly tapped in by Will Farrow, for his first goal of the season. Two - one for the Rockets!
For the second half, a slightly injured Shane Deane took Josh's place in goal, giving Josh a chance to warm up, because the Rockets maintained the pressure on the Monkeys, and there was little to do for either the goalkeeper or the defence. Good work by Jordi Dicker and Tanner Bayly in midfield, and fine passing by Isaac Van Rossen kept the Monkeys in their own half. We had some more chances but the score remained 2-1 for the Rockets.
Well done Monkeys, well done Rockets, "Go Rockets"!
U12 Bears
It was a foggy morning at Menzies Creek and the Bears were up against a strong Bulleen Lions side. With visibility down to half the pitch length, long balls materialized out of the grey murk to surprise defenders and attackers alike and the opening 20 minutes was scrappy, neither side able to seize the initiative. Max Gates, Adam Doolan and Lachlan Mackay in defence held their opponents well, scrapping hard, but opportunities up front were few. Jonathan Marshall was also having a strong game, looking to get involved, and Kane Angulo was dominating his area of the pitch and feeding the ball forward. However, 0-0 at half time was reflective of a match in which chances were scarce and the teams were cancelling each other out. In the second half some positional changes and the gradual lifting of the foggy blanket saw the match begin to open up. Thyler Argoon in goal was called upon to make some saves, although fortunately the Lions strikers seemed to keep picking him out, and his long clearances began to be the launching pad for some Bears attack. Nic Broomhead got the better of some claose Bullen marking and had a strong half on the left wing, making a number of breaks and providing some good centring balls, whilst Liam Stauber and Michael Park were looking dangerous in front of goal, as was recent Puma’s recruit Paul Torsello. Paul was brought down just outside the box when in a promising position, and an excellent free kick by set piece specialist Ahren “Bend it like Beckham”Angulo almost resulted in the opening goal, meeting the top of a Bulleen head rather than the net and then deflecting wide. In the latter stages the Bears were clearly on top and were pressing hard, but some excellent goal-keeping from Bulleen and an organised defence kept them out. In the final moments the Bears earnt a corner and though well-taken it again was repelled by scrambling defence….before the defining moment of the match came from Zach Leucke. Zach collected the ball around the edge of the box, neatly swivelled and confounded a Bullen defender before slamming an unstoppable shot high into the top left corner of the net. GOAL! Coffee cups, hot chips, beanies and children under 18 months were flung high into the air amongst the Sherbrooke supporters and the Bears had secured another win in what has been a very testing season to date. Player of the match for a tireless performance was Kane Angulo.
U16 Sparx
Sparx were pumped from the start as they took on number 1 ranked team Hampton Park United. The girls worked hard in a very physical game with keeper Georgia Cramer spectacularly stopping all shots for goal throughout the game. Erica Scott out ran most opponents so too did Jordy Dunster. Rheanan Ash-Millard was relentless in attack. Half time score nil all. A few minute into the second half Alex Gardner scored from 3 metres
outside the penalty box lifting the ball over the keeper's head. Not long after Jessie Gilbert-Hunt powered in a second goal. Sparx kept the pressure on Hampton Park with some great play from Emily Scott, Tara Frankcombe and strong kicking from Nicole Perfect. Five minutes to go and Hampton Park scored but Sparx held on to their lead to win 2 -1. Great effort by all of the team.
MENS FOREST (DIV 1) VS Morrison
2-2 – R. Cassidy, F. Disario

In the latest round of matches the Forest came up against Morrison. After their 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Forest earlier in the season Morrison were out to even the score. The boys started brightly though and created several good early chances. They failed to capitalize though and it was Morrison who took the lead when their striker was allowed to jump uncontested in the 6 yard box to head home. The boys didn’t drop their heads and after a terrible attempted clearance by the Morrison goalkeeper the ball fell to Ryan Cassidy who easily converted into the open net. Debutant Jacco Kerstens was having an immediate impact and should have put the Forest ahead when he got on the end of a cross by Shaun Grant only to see his volley go narrowly wide. A few more chances came and went but the score remained 1-1 at halftime. The second half had a similar feel as the first with both teams creating some good opportunities. The referee was becoming more of an influence on the game as several bad tackles went unpunished. Morrison were gifted the lead midway through the half when goalkeeper Mario Korporaal couldn’t hold onto a shot from deep and the ball fell invitingly to the feet of the onrushing attacker who tapped in. The boys didn’t drop there heads though and continued to put the Morrison defense under constant pressure. Ryan Cassidy was fouled badly on the left wing and from the resulting free kick Frank Disario sent in a wicked curling ball that wasn’t dealt with by the defense and found its way into the back of the net. The Forest was now looking to press home their dominance with a winning goal but it wasn’t to be. Grant had what appeared to be a perfectly good goal disallowed after he was adjudged to have fouled the goalkeeper and the Forest were also denied 2 certain penalties on the day. The game finished at 2-2, the Forest will definitely see this as 2 points lost rather than 1 gained. Next up is last season’s Division 1 premiers Mitcham which promises to be a tough challenge for the boys.

Reports for Weekend July 19th/20th
The passing of Alex Webb was recognized at most venues over the weekend with Sherbrooke teams all wearing black arm bands and games beginning with one minutes silence. Many opposition teams went out of their way to offer sympathy and condolences to club representatives prior to the matches demonstrating the depth of this tragedy in the soccer community. My heart wasn't in it this weekend so I apologize for lack of scores recorded.
U10 Rockets
The U10 Rockets played at home against 'top of the ladder' Berwick United.  And with a full strength team (Ari Fanney back from his Icelandic holidays), the Rockets gave themselves lots of room and lots of chances. Josh Hogben has settled well in goal and with his defensive line up of Ari, Will Farrow, Cody Karsikas and Shane Deane played a solid first half.  It was however the tireless running of Alan Damen and Chris Heckenberg that saw the ball moving up the field in the right direction continuously. Practising juggling at training almost paid off for Isaac Van Rossen, who bounced the ball on his foot and knee a couple of times before narrowly missing a shot at goal.  It wasn't long before good pressure work meant that Chris could open the scoring for the Rockets. Good control in the midfield by Shaun Allen, coupled with good surefooted clearances by Shaun, Cody and Jordan Dicker, kept the ball in the Berwick half. This pressure play got its reward when Tanner Bayly scored the second goal with a good shot from within the penalty box. If you work that hard, you deserve to get your name spelled correctly: Tanner Bayly. Berwick put some more pressure on the Rockets in the second half, even requiring a couple of good saves from Tanner (this time in goal). Patrick Walker, as usual, provided assistance all over the field, as well as in his defensive position. The Rockets weathered the storm with Chris and Alan back in more defensive roles, even though it does sometimes seem a bit hard for Alan to be restricted to a single position.  It stayed two-nil for the Rockets. Well done Berwick, well done Rockets, "Go Rockets"!
U12 Bears
The U12 Bears started away strongly against the lowly placed Glen Waverley. Zac Luecke was a dynamo and created, and also missed, some chances. Liam Stauber followed up with another gold etched chance. A few corners were well placed but could not be converted. To make matters even worse, the first and only chance for the hosts in the first half led to their attacker running trough and leaving Keeper Thyler Argoon no chance. 0-1 at half time and memories from the Caulfield game could not be avoided.  The second half saw some inspired positional changes, with Max Gates and Adam Doolan moving from defence into attack. Zac nearly scored from the kick off. Soon after, a perfect cross by Liam finally broke the duck. Max was well placed and finished coolly. This was followed by Adam’s goal, whose perseverance paid off. His job done, he was ordered back into defence. Shortly after the Glen Waverley team missed an excellent chance. Kane Angulo cleared in extremis. He had an outstanding game in midfield, never giving up and creating various chances. After good work through the midfield Michael Park scored the expected winner. 3-1, the game looked safe. Unfortunately, shortly after a mix up in defence led to another goal for the never die Glen Waverley. Sturdy defensive work led by Ahren Angulo and ably deputised by Lochie Maclean and Paul Torsello held the opposition team at bay. It is also worth mentioning the fighting effort by Jon Marshall and Alex Murray. The latter never giving up, despite an injury. Player of the match went to Max Gates for his first goal of the season and an overall good effort.

PARRY SHIELD – SEMI FINAL
FOREST (DIV 1) VS Knox Churches Force
0-1
In the semi final of the Parry Shield the Forest where drawn against league rivals Knox. Being arguably the 2 best sides in division 1 both teams came to play. After the unfortunate events of the week the boys where determined to give it everything they had in honor of the Webb family and the tragic loss if their son Alex.
Both teams started brightly and created several chances. With Forest going with the wind they where looking to pile the pressure onto the Knox defense. Sy Bahar and Pete Strajner both had very near misses, while at the other end a fine save by Mario Korporaal fell invitingly to the Knox striker although he failed to capitalize with the goal gaping. Some inspirational tackling by Darryl Scott was proving tough for the Knox players and the hard running of midfielders Bernie Herrok, Shaun Grant and Dave Hill ensured the Forest dominate the majority of proceedings. Despite their dominance they couldn’t break the deadlock and the score remained 0-0 at halftime. Knox thought they had the game won now that they where attacking with the wind in the second half but the Forest boys had other ideas. They knocked the ball around well and Strajner and Ryan Cassidy where still causing the Knox defense headaches. It was Knox though who had the better of the chances and the Forest where only kept in the game thanks to some dogged defending by Dave Milne, Frank Disario and Jordan Scott and excellent goalkeeping by Korporaal. They boys had thought they’d done enough to see the game into extra time but a long range shot by the Knox player could only be parried by Korporaal into the path of the Knox striker who finished well with 2 minutes to go. This was heartbreaking for the Forest boys who had given their all throughout the match. They managed to create one last chance when a header by Grant fell to Strajner and his header was unluckily cleared of the goal line. A 1-0 win to Knox in a very entertaining and hard fought encounter. The boys could hold their head up high and will be looking to continue their excellent league form against Morrison next match.

CLINIC
The Sub junior clinic got off to a rough start with no power at the clubrooms first up. However the rain held off for the day and all the participants had a great day. Spain followed up their recent European triumph winning the Mini World cup coached by U8 Hawks coach Michael Desgranges. Players of the day went to Natalie Doolan and Jai Trimboli. The giant soccer ball was a favorite of most.

The Junior Clinic was completed on Thursday with nearly 80 participants. Australia beat England in the final 2-1 and players of the clinic went to Michael DeMilio and Nicki Turpin. More photos in gallery under events.

Match  Reports June 28th:
FOREST (DIV 1) VS Berwick United
2-0 – S. Grant, S. Bahar
In the latest round of league matches the Forest came up against Berwick United. Unlike past weeks the boys started reasonably well and had a couple of early chances. Pete Strajner had a header come back off the crossbar after good work down the right by Bernie Herrok. The boys continued to pressure the Berwick defence as Strajner drew a foul just outside the box. From the corresponding free kick Shaun Grant stepped up to hit a hard low shot which despite the keeper’s outstretched grasp went in off the post to open the scoring for the Forest. Both teams created chances in the remainder of the half but the game finished 1-0 at halftime. The boys again started brightly in the second half passing the ball around a lot better and looking very solid at the back with sweeper Frank Disario and captain Darryl Scott keeping things under control. A flowing move down the left saw the Forest earn a corner which was swung in by Ryan Cassidy. Grant rose above the defence to head the ball back across goal where Sy Bahar was on hand to score the easiest of goals. The game became a bit ill tempered after that with players from both sides becoming a bit animated. The referee kept well having to unfortunately send off one the Berwick players for abusive language. Despite the man advantage for the last 15 minutes the boys could not add to their score and ran out winners 2-0. A deserved win by the boys who regain their place on top of the ladder. Next up is 3rd placed Casey who will be out to avenge their resent cup defeat at the hands of the Forest.

Exceptional Club Person
Emily
Scott from the U16 Girls completed training at 8:15 on a dismal Thursday evening and arrived at the car very wet and muddy on June 19th. She took a while to remove her boots and get organised and by the time we were ready to head off, everyone else was on the way. To my dismay, my battery failed me and we were stuck out on the road. There was a 2 hour wait for the RACV so I arranged a tow truck – a minimum 60 minute wait. A while later a car stopped and the driver offered help, or to wait with us, but I thanked him and said we were happy to wait for the tow truck. The car drove off, only to return minutes later with a strong torch and jumper leads. We were extremely grateful. The gentleman, who I believe to be Hans Damen coach of the U/10 Rockets, and his daughter Emma stood out in the rain and fired us up. We arrived home at 9:40 with our faith in the good nature of our community restored! Although I have emailed Hans, we would love to thank the family through the website if this is possible as we think this is a good news club story!
Warm regards
Jenny and Emily Scott

Bring on the MUD June 21st
The clubs wet weather experience shone through on Saturday as our players reveled in the mud with 9 home wins and a draw in dismal conditions. The U13 Gunners had their first win in convincing fashion as did our U14 Stingrays though that was away. 3-0 was the order of the day with the Mens Hoods doing it in multiples of 5 and thrashing Crossway 15-0 despite playing one short due to cup tie commitments. Hornets, Power and Sharks all continued their amazing undefeated runs and the Mens 1st Division team over ran tough opposition to run out convincing 5-2 winners over Casey Spirit. The only poor note from the day being some poor behaviour exhibited to a couple of our female referees from opposition officials. From my view point once again our referees were extremely fair and competent and my only critisism would be they need to check their whistles work as well in the wet weather as the dry. The U16 Girls Sparx continued their improved performance with a strong 8-0 victory over Boronia with Alex Gardner scoring a hat trick. Whilst undefeated U11 Juggernauts were unable to upset league leaders Ringwood drawing 2-2.
U12 Bears
In rainy conditions the U12 Bears started well against Glen Eira. Both wingers, Zac Luecke and Alex Murray, put pressure onto the opposition from the first minute on. The game had hardly started, when a Glen Eira defender bundled Liam Stauber over. The subsequent penalty was calmly converted by Lochie MacLean, who has not missed one in living memory. Nice passes from the midfield by Kane Angulo, Michael Park and Jon Marshall kept the pressure up. A well centred cross by Zac found Liam in front of the goal for an easy tap in. Shortly after the same player scored his second by lobbing the ball into the far corner of the goal for a well deserved 3-0 half time result.  The defence, well marshalled by Ahren Angulo and Adam Doolan, was little tested. In driving rain everybody expected to see a second half in the same mould. Some changes occurred and the midfield was now well run by Max Gates and Paul Torsello. In the middle of the half, the defence lost some of its previous focus and the Glen Eira team managed to pull two goals back. It suddenly looked a bit uncomfortable. Thyler Argoon in goal stayed focused and held well. Shortly after, the nerves were calmed again, as Michael ran through the opposing defence to ensure the final 4-2 win. 7 wins in a row has the second placed Bears well positioned for the upcoming crunch matches against the two top teams. Well done boys!
Sherbrooke
U14 Girl Saphyrz
It is said that ‘pride comes before a fall’, and this certainly was true of the past two games for the Saphyrz. After a strong draw against the top team Peninsular the previous week, the Saphyrz stumbled their way to a 1-1 draw against bottom of the ladder team Brighton.
From the first whistle the Saphyrz were not ‘switched on’ and looked slow, indecisive and often second to the ball. They had the majority of the play, but rarely put together a chain of passes that found their target. On a rare foray into our defensive half a lobbed shot from a Brighton player was allowed to bounce in the penalty box, past our keeper and into the net. So we went into half time 0-1 down! There was a heated address by the coaches during the break and changes were made to the line up. We started with a defender as the main forward and key players on the bench. Soon after the restart of play we scored with a well struck shot and we looked to be on the way. Although the Saphyrz enjoyed almost all the play in the second half (our keeper touched the ball twice), the girls could not find a way to get the second goal and the game ended with a disappointing 1-1 draw. Special mention should be made to  ‘Princess’ Leah Cody who tried her best in defence and attack, ‘Big Bad’ Rachel Bourke who ran all day and scored the goal with a lovely left-footer (the practise is paying off!), and Ella ‘Terminator’ Furniss who was the hardest working player on either team and covered well for her team mates. Also, it is great to see so many parents along to support their girls and the team. Although it was a game we should have won, it was good that a draw enabled us to stay in second place on the ladder. Now the Saphyrz have a chance to show what a great TEAM they are and play their best soccer next weekend.
PARRY SHIELD ¼ FINAL
FOREST (DIV 1) VS Casey Spirit
5-2 – S. Bahar 3, R. Cassidy 2
In the ¼ final of the Parry Shield the Forest came up against Casey Spirit. This was always going to be a tough test and after yet another slow start the boys found themselves 2-0 down after just 20 minutes. The deficit seemed to wake the boys up though and they started to get back into the game. Pete Strajner unfortunately squandered a couple of guilt edged chances to score but just before half time the Forest got the goal they had worked hard for when Ryan Cassidy got on the end of a flowing move through the midfield to finish well. 2-1 to Casey at halftime. Eddie gave the boys a serious talking to at halftime which again had the desired affect as the boys played probably their best 45 minutes of the season. They peppered the goals at the start of the half but again failed to capitalize on some excellent chances. With 15 minutes gone the boys got their goal when Shaun Grant played in Sy Bahar to round the keeper and score showing great composure. The Forest continued to pile on the pressure when Grant again played the through ball this time to Strajner to slide the ball past the goalie and Bahar finished it off with the ball unluckily stopping in the mud. The Forest’s lead was almost wiped away immediately when Casey’s top scorer was sent through on goal but a brilliant last gasp tackle from skipper Darryl Scott came to their rescue. The boys were determined not to be denied and Bahar completed his hat trick after some great work down the left by Strajner. The route was complete when Cassidy took advantage of the loose ball after a long range shot by Grant was well saved by the Casey goalie. An excellent 5-2 win to the boys who will look to regain their spot on top of the ladder next week against Berwick United.

2008
Weekend of June 14th
The front runners in the U12 league both dropped important points on the weekend allowing the league to be left wide open as we reach the half way mark. Power were held to a 1-1 draw at home to last years champions Knox whilst Pumas were very fortunate to come away with a point against league newcomers Eltham when they received a penalty for a dangerous play offense (normally an indirect free kick) and evened the score late in the second half. The U15 Terriers threw down the gauntlet in their league when they knocked off league leaders Nth Blackburn 2-1and closed the space between themselves and the top. Apart from this results didnt really go our way this week with even our undefeated U8 Hornets only managing a draw. Sunday was a day of dragging youngsters out of bed to referee. No ref showed for the first 3 games at Menzies nor the game at Emerald so both Josh Newman and Danny Ceeney got wake up calls and a warm up prior to their 3.00pm U16's match to referee these games. The U14 Girls Lasers scored their first win of the season against Brighton whilst the U14 Saphyrz continued their good form drawing 0-0 with top team Peninsula. The U16 Girls also rounded of a good day for our girls teams with an outstanding 14-0 victory. Jessie Gilbert-Hunt coming back from last seasons knee reconstruction to score a handful whilst talented youngster Nicole Perfect bagged four.

U15  Terriers Couragous Win
The U15 Sherbrooke Terriers sitting second on the ladder, took on the topteam, North Blackburn Sharks, on Saturday, and won 2-1. After a fairly substantial loss to the Blackburn Sharks, in the second game of the season, a win this weekend was, what every team member wanted. From the first whistle, the game was fast, competitive and fair. A goal less first half was thanks to the magic hands of goal keeper- Kai Berlau, along with the never say die attitude of the defenders, Caleb Wykes, Tom Van der Hulst ,Dylan Everitt-Gooding, Lachlan Bagally, Josh Van der Hulst and Lachlan Findlay. The second half was going to be tough, and thanks to the determined efforts of the forwards, Joris Kerstens and Luke Manion, along side the mid-fieilders., Aaron Thomson ( captain), Charlie Tibb, Luke Noak and David Cheveil, the first goal came as a deflection off a Blackburn defender, and gave Sherbrooke the lead. However, not to be out done, the Blackburn Sharks replied, within minutes, lobbing the ball over the heads of our defenders, and goal keeper, to draw level.
A good pass from the center, ,resulted in Lachlan Bagally  kicking with confidence and scoring the winning goal, minutes from the end. If determination and desire is what was needed to take a game off  the Blackburn Sharks, then the Sherbrooke Terriers certainly had that this weekend. They were a pleasure to watch.. Their passing, teamwork, skills and camaraderie, was a credit to coach Shaun Bayley, who said -this is what its all about- youve proved to yourselves you are good enough to win, Im proud of you all and gave his coaches award to all 14 players, for their dedication and determination. Captain Aaron Thomson , gave Lachlan Bagally the captains award for his great winning goal.
U12 Bears
In what looked to be an easier than usual match the U12 Bears met the bottom of the table Mooroolbark. The Bears started with a lot of good intentions and put the guests under constant pressure. This was not rewarded as many chances went missing. Zac Luecke after a good run and Liam Stauber missed the goal by fractions. When it started to look like the Lalor match again, the first goal fell. The Mooroolbark defence handled a ball in desperation. The subsequent penalty was converted by Mr Cool himself, Lochie Maclean. Shortly after, a free kick was drilled directly into the net by Ahren Angulo. 2-0 was the half time result. The Bears started the second half in unusual positions. The defenders and attackers swapped positions. Some nice combinations followed. On the right side it was Lochie and Alex Murray combining well and putting the defence under pressure. Michael Park in midfield and Max Gates worked tireless. Six more goals fell, a hat trick each for Michael and Adam Doolan. Adam, usually playing in centre defence, scored his first goals (3) for the Bears. What an effort and a well deserved man of the match award for him. Paul did outstanding work in the back, ably supported by Jon. Kane Angulo had a quite morning in goal. First half goalie Thyler showed good skills in the left midfield. A well deserved 8-0 win keeps the Bears in contact with the top of the table.
U9 Falcons
After a hard training session during the week intended to shake off the cobwebs of the break, the Falcons started this match very much switched on and focused. Healesville had one stand out player last season and he was the target of every attack again. The Falcons man marked their number 7 out of the game and kept Healesville to just a couple of shots on target during the whole match. In contrast the Falcons built on their disciplined defence and, as the first half progressed, were able to exert increasing pressure on the Healesville goal but failed to score. The second half saw Healesville tire and they were guilty of crowding around the ball which freed up our players, who were using the full width of the pitch to their advantage. The Falcons easily had the better of the attacking play for the whole of the second half and made the Healesville keeper pull off several fine saves which kept them in the game. Often people say that a no score draw must be boring to watch. I would disagree. Some of the best matches I have seen have been nil, nil. Today was no exception. Overall the standard of play and discipline from both teams was outstanding and a pleasure to watch. Both sets of supporters were appreciative of the sportsmanship of each team. Football was the winner today. Falcons 0 v 0 Healeville.
U14C Girls Saphyrz
Roll time back to when we first played Peninsula on the 27th April, and you would see Sherbrooke Rangers lost 4 – 0. We left the game disappointed with the result, but encouraged that we could do a lot better. Since then, the Saphyrz have really gelled as a team and settled into their roles and positions on the field. In the games that have followed they have conceded only two goals and scored ten. So the scene was set for a top of the table re-match on 15th June between Sherbrooke and Peninsula. Unfortunately, Sherbrooke began in their usual listless manner and Peninsular had a lot of the play early on. Our defence was disorganised and key clearances were ineffective. This led to a penalty to Peninsula after about 10-15 minutes when four Sherbrooke defenders attacked one Peninsula player with the ball. Fortunately, the ball sailed over the crossbar! The Sherbrooke keeper, Adelaide ‘Spider’ Leggett, then kept us in the game with some courageous saves in spite of a swarm of attacking players. She even had the scars to prove it! Gradually, Sherbrooke settled down and gained ascendency towards the end of the 1st half. ‘Big, bad’ Rachael Bourke and Eilish ‘the athlete’ Devers provided good run up the flanks, Taylah ‘leftie’ Sheppard and Lani ‘motorbike’ Hallam began to feed some good passes through to the forwards, and Serise ‘precious’ Benc, Alexa ‘boom boom’ Allan and ‘Princess’ Leah Cody were pumping the ball out of defence. The ½ time ‘rev up’ from Specialist Coach Brian worked wonders and the 2nd half opened with a flurry of scoring opportunities to Elise ‘Viduka’ Milner, Rachael, Taylah and Eilish. The defence was proving to be ‘rocklike’, with Jo ‘Leroy’ Brown, Celeste ‘CC’ Collings and Sarah ‘Rowdy’ Deane making valuable contributions which freed Leah to move further up the field and play a more attacking role. One of these skirmishes led to Ella ‘terminator’ Furniss having a very creative shot which cannoned into the crossbar! Sherbrooke had the majority of the play in the 2nd half, but the final whistle blew with a 0-0 result. The draw, although disappointing, showed how far the girls have come in the past 7 weeks and they should be encouraged by their efforts. Leah was voted best-on-ground and really showed bravery with some daring attack on the ball. A special mention to Lani who is improving each week and rapidly turning into a key midfielder. Thanks to the parents (and grandparents!) who attended this week, helped to set up the game and encouraged the girls with their enthusiasm.

Weekend of June 7th
The U14C Saphyrz girls continued their amazing winning streak defeating top team Baxter 1-0. Despite being somewhat flat according to their coaching staff their excellent on field structure held them in good stead in the first half to go in 1 goal up. In the second half they had to withstand a spirited response from Baxter but both Alexa Allan in the sweeping roll and goal keeper Adelaide Leggett were  impassable on the day and eventually the Saphyrz wrestled back control to topple the league leaders. At Menzies the U18 Tiagos took on Nth Caulfield and lost by a scrambled goal in the first half. The Tiagos seemed to lack desire and were often second to the ball in a performance I am sure they wouldn't have been happy with for the day. Brian Martin and Dean Mercer in defence plus some gutsy keeping from Jordan Currie were the bright lights that saved the Tiagos bacon on numerous occassions.

U12 Bears vs Lalor June 8th

Stretching the definition of “eastern division” to extremes, the U12 Sherbrooke Bears were on the road to Thomastown to play an unheralded Lalor team. The Bears got off to a good start, with Michael Park cleverly deceiving the defence to cut through and then beat the goalie with a deft shot. One gaol up after a few minutes, the Bears were creating numerous opportunities but lacked finishing touches. Liam Stauber and Michael (again) had good chances but the final shot went wide or was deflected by a Lalor goalie who was putting everything into his work. Lalor’s defence also appeared top-heavy with numbers, and the crowded goal square began to frustrate the Bears who needed to show more patience. Thyler Argoon in goal was rarely troubled, although he was called upon to make one save and showed good composure to leave his line at the right time. The Angulo twins were again prominent, dominating the centre of the pitch and holding their own against physical Lalor opposition. Max Gates also had a strong half, although his run when last man in defence put Leo’s heart in his mouth - even if Max did make it all the way to the goalsquare! With the ball spending most time in the Lalor half, however, Sherbrooke should really have gone in to their halftime oranges with 2 or 3 additional goals. In the second half Lalor began to sniff an upset and redoubled their efforts, with some physical clashes creeping in and penalties going to both sides on different occasions. Johnathan, Lachlan and new player Paul – a Pumas draftee – held things together well in midfield and defence, whilst upfront Zach Lueke – recovered from a first half blow that saw him taken off – was combining well with Nic Broomhead on the left. It was this combination and some good work from Michael that saw Nic score the important second goal midway through the half to give the Bears some breathing space. Adam Doolan moved to centre forward for the latter stages and was almost rewarded after a great run, the ball curving just past the post, before Liam added the final goal with a good strike. 3-0 was a satisfying result, but with no real standout players the coaches player of the day was Max Rechner, showing great team spirit to make the journey to support his teammates ( broken arm healing well!).
U16 Pythons
Pythons unfortunately lost 3-0 to Whitehorse in a tuff game.  It was one of those games where the score did not reflect the true game.  Pythons successfully managed to have at least 75% possession of the ball in the first half and desperately deserved a goal.  There were many attempts, but none would actually see the back of the net.  The 2nd half saw the boys come out and continue with their best efforts, but unfortunately some lucky goals saw Whitehorse take away the points.  Great efforts by Lachy, Jack, Jacco and James H who continued to tackle and be first to the ball.  Well done guys, keeping training hard!

June 14th 2008
Weekend of May 31st/June1st
It has been a very tumultous week for our club on the field and I feel compelled to remind our members about our codes of conduct. Our committee will have many issues to deal with this Tuesday and unfortunately some will relate to conduct. In a disgraceful display by our Mens 5th Division team The Hoods, four players were shown the Red Card. This is a totally unacceptable outcome and needless to say will result in serious repercussions for individuals, the team and maybe the club. On Sunday we had a situation at the U16 girls game whereby two girls got into a physical altercation resulting in parents and Marshalls invading the field. Needless to say the referee had no other alternative but to abandon the game. I cant actually remember a Sherbrooke game being abandoned at least not in the last 5 years for any other reason than weather. The resultant outcome was that the passport of the wrong girl was taken and may now miss games for something she didnt do plus a probable tribunal call up for our club. The only positive note of this situation was that it seems none of our supporters were involved
in the pitch invasion. We also had the situation where a supporter was asked to leave the ground at the U16 Pythons match by the referee. There are currently motions being put forward to bring in very stringent punishments for lack of control of supporters, players and officials that can result in club expulsion very quickly. It is imperative we tone down our passion and concentrate on the soccer and the ball not on opposition players, supporters or referees.
U12 Pumas

The Pumas clawed their way back into contention for the U12 league when they demolished 3rd placed Nth Blackburn raptors 4-1. Alex Webb was outstanding in goal whilst the central line strength from Adam Doolan , Brodie Curry and Michael Parks meant the Raptors main striker was often pushed wide. Fletch Field had another excellent game and repelled multiple attacks down the right. It was a a far more physical performance from the Pumas who copped a couple of blood lips in the warm up from their own players. Both Tim and Justin seemed inspired by their early cuts however with Tim having a goal disallowed and Justin going on to score a hat trick.
Ladies
The Ladies team travelled to Healesville to try and avenge the horrific 0-3 performance in the cup two weeks previous. It was obvious they had come to play when Tanya Newman broke through the defence and blasted her shot straight into the keeper before Jess O' Brien followed up to slot home the first goal of the match. Healesville though were not be out done and their sharpness in the middle of the park allowed them to clip a soft goal of the inside edge of the pole to equalize. They then followed this with a good left foot shot from wide outside the box after Sherbrooke failed to clear the ball when the chance presented itself. Sherbrooke continued to pressure however though the theme of kicking straight at the keeper continued. In the second half after continual pressure a hand ball resulted in a Sherbrooke penalty which Perri slammed at the keeper. The rebound was again slammed at the keeper which finally rebounded to Stella to equalize. Shortly thereafter a bouyed Sherbrooke took the lead when Nikki scored with her left from just inside the box. The Ladies then soaked up heaps of pressure until Nikki had the chance to seal it after she broke through the defence and yes you guessed it hit it straight at the keeper. This resulted in a tremendous defensive 15 minutes where the Ladies withstood heaps of pressure before holding on to season inspiring 3-2 win. My suggestion for training this week? Shooting whatelse!!
U16 Panthers
I think these boys should be called the heartbreakers. Two weeks previous with a seemingly unassailable 3-1 lead over league leaders Croydon the snatched a draw from the Jaws of victory. Today they had the chance to take top spot by rewarding their distraught parents and coaching staff with the win they should have got. However the team that is certainly good enough to win the league again failed to play 90 minutes of football and didnt start until after the 10 minute mark when they were already 0-3 down to three very soft goals. Despite the very poor start they had enough good chances to go in half time 4-3 up except for some outstanding goalkeeping by the Croydon keeper. At 1-3 down half time passed and again the boys piled on the pressure but to for no reward as the goalkeeper repelled them time and time again. Mark Howard gave them excellent drive out wide whilst Glenn Brown continued the fine defensive form he showed mid week in the inter schools competition. However Croydon eventually got a forth after a poor goalkick was snapped up by the opposition midfield. The Panthers continued to try however and were eventually rewarded with an own goal seemingly the only way to get past their keeper. No doubt the coaches and parents will again come next week hopefull their team will one day start playing for the full 90 minutes and get the rewards they are capable of achieving.

U14 Girls Saphyrz
Sherbrooke Rangers V Brandon Park

“Woo hoo, shake your butt, woo hoo, shake your butt”! That was cry that echoed across a foggy Freeway Reserve, as the U14 Saphyrz celebrated their win over Brandon Park with their traditional victory song!
After a lacklustre opening 10-15 minutes, Alexa ‘boom boom’ Allan was brought on to strengthen the defence. Immediately, we were more confident in attack with Taylah ‘leftie’ Sheppard providing Elise ‘Viduka’ Milner and Rachel ‘the racehorse’ Bourke with scoring opportunities. Then the floodgates opened with three goals in 10 minutes from Taylah, Elise and Eilish ‘the athlete’ Devers.  The second half began with sustained pressure from Brandon Park, but each attack was repelled with vigour from Serise ‘Princess’ Benc, Celeste ‘CC’ Collings, Sarah ‘Deano’ Deane and Alexa. Our keeper, Adelaide ‘Amazon’ Leggett, owned the 18 yard box! Ella ‘the dominator’ Furniss provided great coverage in the defensive midfield position, and Lani ‘motorbike’ Hallam and Jo ‘tenacious’ Brown ran all day. After a physical game, the Saphyrz eventually won the game 3-0. Eilish was voted the best player, with every player contributing to the strong win. What a season it has been for the Saphyrz – a courageous loss in the 1st game, followed by two unlucky draws and now three strong wins in a row. As the girls become more confident we are sure to hear more of ‘woo hoo, shake your butt’ as the season progresses!

U10 Rockets
And so it was that the U10 Rockets found themselves in Blackburn to play against the Jedis on a beautiful Saturday morning.

The teams were evenly matched in the first half with the game going up and down the field in an even manner.  However the Jedis managed to sneak a couple of goals passed our otherwise well performing first half goalkeeper, Josh Hogben. Lack of solid clearances from defence were to blame for the two soft goals.  Watching the ball rather than making it your own, caused a lot of unnecessary ball loss and we also failed to put some opportunities away, leaving us 2-0 down at the break. After a stirring half time speech by coach Hans Damen, and a more attacking line up, the boys threw themselves into the second twenty minutes. Shaun Allen dropped into his leading central defenders role, and organised the boys there.  And we can see how Isaac Van Rossen is descended from 16th century Dutch warlord Maarten Van Rossum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maarten_van_Rossum), his clearing shots from defence would have cleared the walls of any besieged city.  Chris Heckenberg played a more aggressive midfield role feeding a rotating series of attackers. We of course have to mention Tanner Bayley's hard work up front chasing down balls. Jake Breukel and Cody Karsikas came up from midfield to assist in the attacks. This leaves me with a small Rockets boy who deserves a special mention, Alan Damen. From his attacking midfield position you'd expect to find him up front sometimes, and yes, he was there on the left, as well as on the right, as well as on the midfield, as well as helping out in defence.  So it wasn't surprising that Alan scored the first goal, just after we resumed at half time. Intercepting a defensive clearance Alan was left alone in front of the goalie, who was left to retrieve the ball from the net.  Oh, yes and then he tapped in the second goal after the goalkeeper parried a shot from Tanner.  Oh, and then his attempted cross from the right drifted into the goal for his hat-trick.  The Jedis quickly changed their goalkeeper, but to no avail, because Alan shot from distance to take his tally to four. And so it was that the Rockets beat the Jedis 4-2 in Blackburn on a sunny autumn morning.  Well Done Rockets, good passing, good persisting.  Well Done Alan for doing exactly those things, and scoring goals on top of it all.   Go Rockets!!!!!
FOREST
(DIV 1) VS Dandy Casuals
2-1 – R. Cassidy, S. Grant

In the latest round of games the Forest came up against Dandy Casuals. It was evident through their warm up that the opposition had come to play and the Forest where totally dominated in the first half. It was without a doubt the boys worst 45 minutes for the season and this reflected on the scoreboard as they went into half time 1-0 down. It could have been more if not for some dogged defending and 1 fine reflex save by goalkeeper Mario Korporaal. Thanks to an inspiring team talk from coach, Eddie the boys began playing like league leaders. They started knocking the ball around a lot better through the midfield and the chances where beginning to come. Pete Strajner had a great run down the left but Ryan Cassidy couldn’t capitalize on his cross shooting straight at the goalkeeper. The boys did however get the equalizer they deserved when after some neat play through the midfield by Shaun Grant and Frank Disario the ball fell kindly to Cassidy who chipped the keeper brilliantly. The boys now had their tails up and began dominating possession in search for the winning goal. Syahrian Bahar was working tirelessly up front and Bernie Herrok was doing a great job breaking down the Casuals attacks. With 5 minutes to go the ball got played out to Disario on the left who skipped past the defender to deliver a perfect cross for Grant to head home decisively. The relief could be seen across all the player’s faces as they had shown great spirit to fight back to win the game 2-1. Not their best performance of the season but as they’ve shown in the past the Forest had a never say die attitude and continued to take all in their stride in division 1. A couple of weeks off will do the players the world of good and they’ll be raring to go in their next match which is the quarter finals of the Parry Shield on June 21st.
U12 Bears

The U12 Bears rode their luck against Richmond this week and escaped with a 1-0 victory. It was a tight match, with neither side giving any latitude and strong defence and robust challenges the main feature. Thyler Argoon continues to grow in confidence as goalie in his first season, and during the first half made a number of excellent saves whilst Kane Angulo, playing a new position on the right wing, was also prominent in the first half. However, the Bears attack was unable to take advantage of opportunities in front of goal, and went in 0-0 at halftime. In the second half the tight struggle continued, with the Bears midfield of Ahren Angulo and Alex Murray working hard. As both teams tired the match began to open up and Richmond were very unlucky not to score after a goal mouth scramble, the final shot rolling languidly past an open goal after desperate defence from Thyler, Max Gates and Adam Doolan. In attack for the Bears U/11’s Juggernauts draftee Ewen was proving more than up to the challenge and making promising raids into the Richmond half, showing excellent speed and ball control. Just as a draw seemed a likely result, it was an error from the Richmond goalie (faultless up to this point) after some sustained Bears pressure that saw the ball presented to Liam Stauber with an open goal and mere minutes left on the clock. For the second week running Liam slotted home the decider and kept the Bears in touch with the league leaders. Player of the match, backing up from the previous U/11s match, was Ewen Doonan.

Weekend of May24th/25th
U10 Rockets
The U10 Rockets played at home against the Lilydale Eagles, and for the second week in a row Joshua Hogben managed to keep a clean sheet while being in goal in the first half.  This could also be due to the fact that the ball didn't even get on to the Rockets defensive side of the field in the first half (and only a couple of times in the second half).
However having possession for 90% of the game does not necessarily mean you win. You may have Chris Heckenberg sweeping the ball forward from midfield, you may have Alan Damen crossing in consistently from the right flank, you may have Cody Karsikas working tiredly in midfield, you may even have Isaac Van Rossen and Shaun Allen taking shots at goal, it all comes to no good if it rebounds against a wall of 10 Lilydale players in their own goal square. It started 0-0, it finished 0-0, but if you play a game where even the referee says that the Rockets play extremely mature football for an U10 team, you can't really complain.  The spectators sure didn't! Positive talk on the field encouraged passing between the players.  With Tanner Bayley coming up from defence and Shane Deane's quick throw-ins, we gave ourselves all the chances we could. Too bad Alan's shot from range was just saved on the line, too bad Will Farrow's header didn't make it. The Rockets had a good game and that counts. Well done Eagles, well done Rockets, "Go Rockets"!
Under 12 Bears

The Sherbrooke Under 12 Bears were away to Bulleen for a much-anticipated clash. Still short some key players, the Bears were able to prevail in a tough match against a well-organised team. Sherbrooke had much the better of the first half, Zach Lueke starting with customary pace to regularly cut through and Liam Stauber lurking dangerously in the centre. Even so, committed Bulleen defence kept the Bears out and as the half went on Bulleen began to make some raids of their own. Thyler Argoon was called on t
